Recent discoveries have indicated huge gold deposits in the eastern region of Baghdad, as well as in the western desert and areas of Kurdistan. Mining operations are already in progress in the Aldajh area. Elsewhere, such as Fudhaliyah and Obeidi, gold exploration was reported to be taking place some time ago. For example, there is documented evidence showing huge gold deposits east of the capital, Baghdad.
Gold deposits have also been found in the western desert and in some parts of Kurdistan. We also know that Iraq has already started gold mining operations in Aldajh, although we do not have data on the amount extracted so far.
